Friday, May 7, 2010

Former Chancellor outfielder Bryan Petersen hit a pinch-hit single in his first major league at-bat tonight to help lead the Florida Marlins past the host Washington Nationals, 4-2.

The left-handed-hitting Petersen singled to left field with the score tied, 2-2, in the eighth inning while batting for pitcher Chris Volstad. He scored on a single by Gabby Sanchez.

Petersen was called up by the Marlins from triple-A New Orleans after Thursday's game. He played for the Chancellors from 2002-04, and was a member of the school's national championship teams in 2003 and 2004. The Marlins selected Petersen in the fourth round of the 2007 June amateur draft out of UC Irvine.
