A two-run single to right field by junior shortstop Mike Moustakas ended a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second inning and the Chancellors went on to defeat the Kennedy Cougars, 4-1, Thursday in a nonleague game.

The Cougars (2-3) cut the deficit to 2-1 in the third inning, scoring a run while the Chancellors (5-1) turned a double play from sophomore first baseman James Wharton to Moustakas to pitcher Daniel Simmons, who covered first base.

Simmons, a senior right-hander, was replaced with one out and one on in the fourth inning by senior right-hander Jonathan O'Leary (pictured), who went the rest of the way to record his second career varsity victory and first this season.

Senior catcher Kyle Barbato had a run-scoring single to left field in a two-run third inning.

The Chancellors play host to Narbonne on Saturday at 11 a.m. in a first-round game of the Chatsworth tournament.

Junior shortstop David Whetstone had three hits and junior right fielder Luis Ramirez had two for the Chancellors.
