<font color="#f26100">Chancellors Shut Out Taft</font>

April 6, 2006

Junior right-hander Trent Jones (top photo) gave up two hits and junior right fielder Bobby Coyle (bottom photo) hit a two-run home run and had four runs batted in to lead the Chancellors over Taft, 7-0, Thursday in a West Valley League game at Chatsworth.

The game originally was scheduled to be played at Taft but was moved to Chatsworth to allow the Toreadors' field to recover from the rain. The teams will play at Taft on Friday at 3 p.m. in a makeup of the game postponed Monday because of rain.

Jones (5-0), in his first varsity season, pitched his second shutout and the team's fifth this season. He got early support when the Chancellors (12-1 overall, 5-0 in league play) took a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by sophomore first baseman James Wharton in the second inning.

Coyle put the Chancellors ahead, 3-0, with a two-run homer to center field in the third inning. Chatsworth scored four runs in the fourth, with freshman designated hitter Kasey Toven knocking in a run on a bunt single, junior shortstop Mike Moustakas driving in one with a bases-loaded walk and Coyle producing the last two with a single to right field.

JV: The Chancellors will continue WVL action by playing host to Taft on Friday at 3 p.m. The second game of the week's series postponed because of rain will be made up at a later date.
