WOODLAND HILLS -- Senior right-hander Jonathan O'Leary (2-0) struck out four and gave up five hits in going the distance and the Chancellors defeated host Taft, 12-1, Friday in a West Valley League game stopped after five inning because of the 10-run rule.
The game was a makeup of a game postponed Monday because of rain.
O'Leary (pictured) walked only one and was staked to a 3-0 lead after one inning on three bases-loaded walks. The Chancellors (13-1 overall, 6-0 in league play) sent nine batters to the plate in the first inning.
Chatsworth scored six runs in the second inning on run-scoring singles by senior left fielder Oliver Padre, junior right fielder Bobby Coyle -- another run came in on the hit when the right fielder bobbled the ball -- freshman first baseman Andy Weissberg, junior center fielder Nick Devian and a sacrifice fly by sophomore designated hitter Matt Moreno.
Senior catcher Kyle Barbato drove in a run with a single to right field in the third inning and junior third baseman Matt Dominguez hit a two-run home run to left-center field in the fourth inning.
The Chancellors are off Saturday and travel to Las Vegas on Sunday for the Durango High tournament Monday-Wednesday. They are slated to play Foothill of Santa Ana on Monday at 5 p.m. and host Durango at 8 p.m., and Centennial of Bakersfield on Tuesday at 5 p.m. The game or games Wednesday are to be determined. All games are at Durango High.
JV blanks Taft: The Chancellors (9-2-1, 4-1) collected 11 hits to support sophomore right-hander Trevor Takeyama (5-0), who faced 16 batters, one over the minimum in the five-inning, 12-0 victory at Chatsworth.
Takeyama gave up two hits, struck out 10 and did not walk a batter.
Freshman shortstop Ryan Cooperstone had three hits, and freshman third baseman Andrew Klausmeier and junior right fielder Jon Shields each had two hits for the Chancellors, who scored eight runs in the fifth inning.
