LAS VEGAS -- Senior right-hander Daniel Simmons (bottom photo) gave up two hits, and senior left fielder Oliver Padre (top photo) and junior shortstop Mike Moustakas hit home runs to lead the Chancellors over Foothill of Santa Ana, 11-0, in a Purple Division I pool-play game of the Durango tournament called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.
Simmons (3-0) struck out six and walked one. It was his second shutout this season.
Padre put Chatsworth ahead, 2-0, in the top of the first inning with a homer to right field, his third this year. Moustakas hit a three-run homer to right-center field in the fifth, his third of the season.
Padre and junior third baseman Matt Dominguez each had a double in a 10-hit attack by the Chancellors, who scored in every inning.
Chatsworth (15-1) then took on the host team, the Durango Trail Blazers, and pulled off a 10-7 victory, with sophomore right-handed James Wharton earning his first varsity victory with two innings of relief.
The Chancellors scored six runs in the top of the first inning, one on a grounder by freshman designated hitter Kasey Toven that went for a fielder's choice, two on a single to center field by Dominguez, two on a double to center field by Padre and one on a double to left-center field by junior Bobby Coyle, the starting pitcher.
Durango went ahead, 7-6, with four runs in the fifth inning but the Chancellors responded with four runs in the sixth. Padre led off the inning with a home run to center field, his fourth this season. Junior center fielder Nick Devian drove in a run with a single to left field and freshman first baseman Andy Weissberg had a run-scoring triple and later scored on a passed ball.
