Junior right-hander Trent Jones (top photo) gave up three hits and juniors Bobby Coyle and Mike Moustakas each homered to lead the Chancellors past Birmingham, 10-0, Monday in a West Valley League game called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.
It was the third shutout for Jones (7-1), who is in his first varsity season, and the eighth for the Chancellors (21-2 overall, 8-1 in league play). The school season record is 12 in 2003.
Coyle, a junior outfielder, hit his fourth homer this season and Moustakas (middle photo), a junior shortstop, hit his 10th to pull into a three-way tie with junior third baseman Matt Dominguez and former outfielder-pitcher Jason Dominguez for the school career at 24 apiece.
Senior second baseman Oscar Gutierrez and senior catcher Kyle Barbato (bottom photo) each had run-scoring singles.
JV Beats Birmingham: Sophomore right-hander Trevor Takeyama struck out 12 in six innings to lead the Chancellors over the Patriots, 7-1, in a WVL game at Birmingham.
Freshman Andrew Klausmeier had three hits, including two doubles, for the Chancellors and sophomore Patrick O'Connell had three hits.
