Mike Moustakas (top photo) hit the first pitch in the bottom of the first inning for a home run to center field to start the Chancellors on the way to a 6-3 victory over Cleveland in a West Valley League game Tuesday afternoon.
The junior shortstop, who also had a double, then hit a two-run drive to right field in a five-run third inning for his 12th homer this season, tying the school season record he set last year, and junior third baseman Matt Dominguez (middle photo) followed with a homer to left-center field, his eighth. Moustakas and Dominguez are tied for the Chatsworth career lead with 26 homers each.
Senior second baseman Oscar Gutierrez (bottom photo) contributed a double and a run-scoring triple for the Chancellors (23-2 overall, 10-1 in WVL play), and senior catcher Kyle Barbato had a run-scoring double.
Senior right-hander Jonathan O'Leary picked up a save in relief of senior right-hander Josh Ravin (5-1), who made his first start since March 27 at Granada Hills.
The Chancellors return to WVL play when they travel to Granada Hills on Thursday. They play host to Taft on Friday. Both games are at 3 p.m.
JV Beats Cleveland, 7-5: Sophomore right-hander Trevor Takeyama (7-1) had six strikeouts in a complete-game victory.
Freshman shortstop Ryan Cooperstone, sophomore catcher Richard Palacios and sophomore center fielder Mike Hasenfus each had two hits for the Chancellors (15-4-1, 8-3).
