Senior right-handers Daniel Simmons (top photo) and Jonathan O'Leary combined on a five-inning two-hitter as the Chancellors defeated Taft, 17-0, Friday in a West Valley League game at Chatsworth.
Simmons (6-0) gave up one hit and struck out seven in four innings. It was the 11th shutout for the Chancellors (25-2 overall, 12-1 WVL play), one short of the team record set in 2003.
Sophomore first baseman James Wharton (middle photo) had a two-run double and a two-run triple, junior right fielder Bobby Coyle (bottom photo) hit a home run -- his fifth this season -- and senior outfielder Jeff Redmond, sophomore third baseman Matt Moreno and senior second baseman Oscar Gutierrez each had a double.
The Chancellors play at El Camino Real on Tuesday at 3 p.m. with the WVL title at stake. The teams have split two games this season.
JV Blanks Taft: Sophomore right-hander Cameron Milstein gave up four hits and struck out four, and the Chancellors won a WVL game, 10-0, in five innings at Taft.
Freshman Andrew Klausmeier and sophomore Patrick O'Connell each had two hits for the Chancellors.
