Moustakas, Dominguez Help Spark Team USA

Sept. 21, 2006

Chancellor seniors Mike Moustakas and Matt Dominguez provided punch in the U.S. national team’s 18-1 victory over Italy in a Pool B game of the baseball junior world championships in Cuba.

First baseman Moustakas hit a three-run home run and finished with two hits, five runs batted in and four runs scored, and third baseman Dominguez had a three-run double in a six-run first inning. The game was called after seven innings because of the 10-run rule.

Team USA (2-2) plays Spain (0-4) at 10 a.m. Pacific time Friday in the final pool game. After an open date Saturday, quarterfinal games will be played Sunday in Sancti Spiritus. Team USA is in a three-way tie for third place in Pool B with Italy (2-2) and Mexico (2-2), and behind Chinese Taipei (3-1) and Canada (3-1). The four top teams in each pool advance to the quarterfinals.
