Senior right-hander Trent Jones (top photo) went the distance and senior shortstop Mike Moustakas (middle photo) hit a home run to help the host Chancellors open the season with a 4-0 victory over Alemany today in an Easton tournament game.
Jones gave up four hits, struck out seven and walked two and got a six-hit support from the offense, including Moustakas' homer to left field leading off the bottom of the first inning. It was his 29th home run, breaking a tie with teammate Matt Dominguez for the school's career lead.
The Chancellors, who have started a season with a victory for 10 consecutive years, scored twice in the first inning. After Moustakas' homer, senior third baseman Dominguez walked, senior right fielder Bobby Coyle singled up the middle to send Dominguez to third base from where he scored on a fielder's choice by senior center fielder Nick Devian (bottom photo).
In the second inning, sophomore second baseman Kasey Toven's hit to center field drove in junior designated hitter Matt Moreno, who had walked, from second base to put Chatsworth ahead, 3-0.
Chatsworth scored its last run in the sixth inning when junior first baseman James Wharton walked and later scored on sophomore left fielder Andy Weissberg's double to right-center field.
The Chancellors continue Easton tournament play Saturday when they travel to Saugus for an 11 a.m. game.
