NEWHALL -- Senior shortstop Mike Moustakas homered twice to back up a three-hit performance by senior right-hander Trent Jones and the Chancellors defeated Hart, 9-0, today in an Easton tournament game.
Moustakas (bottom photo) hit a two-run home run in the second inning to put the Chancellors (3-1) ahead, 5-0, and connected for a solo blast in the seventh inning to cap the scoring. He increased his school career-leading home run total to 34.
Jones (top photo) threw his second shutout of the season, giving him seven over two seasons and tying him for second place on the school all-time list. He improved his varsity record to 12-1 and ran his streak of scoreless innings to 25 dating to last season.
Junior designated hitter Josh Reece hit his first varsity home run, driving a pitch over the 396-foot mark in center field in the fourth inning.
Senior third baseman Matt Dominguez hit a run-scoring double in the fifth inning, junior left fielder Matt Moreno hit a double in the third inning and later scored on a single by sophomore second baseman Kasey Toven. Senior right fielder Bobby Coyle had two hits.
The Chancellors continue play in the tournament Saturday at 2 p.m. with a home game against Chaminade. This is a time change from the original schedule because of SAT testing.
JV: Sophomore right-hander Andrew Klausmeier picked up the victory as the host Chancellors (4-0) defeated Hart, 2-0.
