A seventh-inning rally fell just shy and the host Chancellors lost to Narbonne, 5-4, today in a Chatsworth tournament game.
Chatsworth (5-3) scored three times with two out in the seventh inning but the Gauchos (3-5) held on to end a four-game losing streak.
Narbonne led, 4-0, before the Chancellors broke through with a run in the second inning when junior first baseman James Wharton tripled with two out and scored on a single by sophomore catcher Carlos Escobar Jr.
The Gauchos added a run in the third inning for a 5-1 lead. Chatsworth made a run at the Gauchos in the seventh inning when, after two outs, senior shortstop Mike Moustakas homered to left-center field, senior third baseman Matt Dominguez doubled to left-center field and senior right fielder Bobby Coyle (top photo) homered to right-center field.
It was the seventh home run for Moustakas (bottom photo), putting his school career-high total at 35, and the third this season for Coyle, who also had a single.
Senior center fielder Nick Devian had two hits for the Chancellors, who open West Valley League play Tuesday at home against Granada Hills at 3 p.m.
JV: Sophomore right-hander Andrew Klausmeier struck out three in three innings, junior left-hander Noah Hershewe worked two innings and the Chancellors (7-1) defeated Narbonne, 13-0, at San Fernando High.
Klausmeier had two triples and drove in two runs and freshman first baseman Derek Neely had two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs.
The Chancellors open West Valley League play at Granada Hills on Tuesday.
