<font color="#f26100">Chancellors Shut Out Taft</font>

Thursday, March 29, 2007

Senior shortstop Mike Moustakas hit two home runs and an 11-run outburst in the third inning propelled the host Chancellors to a 14-0 victory over Taft today in a West Valley League game stopped after 4-1/2 innings because of the 10-run rule.

Junior right-hander James Wharton (4-1) gave up only a first-inning single and struck out five for the Chancellors (10-3, 4-0 in WVL play).

The left-handed-hitting Moustakas extended his school career home run record to 40 with long drives over the right-center field fence in the third inning, a two-run homer, and in the fourth inning, a three-run shot. He has 12 home runs this season, two shy of his school single-season record, set last year.

Junior left fielder Matt Moreno had a two-run double in the third inning and senior center fielder Nick Devian had a two-run single. Moreno added a single later in the inning, and senior right fielder Bobby Coyle had two hits in the inning, including one that drove in a run, and junior designated hitter Josh Reece had two hits in the inning, a run-scoring single and a run-scoring triple. The Chancellors had eight hits in the third inning.

Coyle and Moustakas each finished with three hits, and Moreno and Reece each had two hits.

The Chancellors next play in the Las Vegas Durango tournament Monday against Kamehameha of Hawaii at 5 p.m. and the host school at 8 p.m.

JV: Junior left-hander Casey Fry gave up two hits and struck out 11 batters in four innings, and junior right-hander Cameron Milstein earned a save with four strikeouts in three innings of the Chancellors 11-0 WVL victory over host Taft.

Freshman first baseman Derek Neely had three hits and two runs batted in for the Chancellors (11-1-1, 3-0-1), and shortstop Mark Felshaw had a run-scoring single.
