LAS VEGAS — The Chancellors parlayed a six-run fourth inning into a 10-6 victory over Bakersfield Centennial tonight in a Purple Division I game of the Las Vegas Durango tournament.
Chatsworth (13-3) will take an eight-game winning streak into a semifinal game against San Fernando on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
It was the 19th consecutive victory in the tournament for the Chancellors dating to 2003. Chatsworth improved to 5-0 against Centennial and scored 10 runs or more against the Golden Hawks for the fourth consecutive time.
The Chancellors took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when senior center fielder Nick Devian, who had led off with a single, scored on a wild pitch and senior third baseman Matt Dominguez, who had walked, scored on a double-play grounder.
In the fourth inning, Chatsworth used a run-scoring single by Devian, a two-run triple by Dominguez — his second triple in two games — a run-scoring single by senior right fielder Bobby Coyle, a bases-loaded walk to junior first baseman James Wharton and a run-scoring single by sophomore second baseman Kasey Toven to score six runs.
Devian finished with four hits, including a double, and Coyle with two. Wharton also had a double. Sophomore designated hitter Andy Weissberg had a run-scoring double.
Senior shortstop Mike Moustakas, who was twice hit by a pitch, struck out four batters in two innings to pick up a save. He struck out the side in the seventh inning and was clocked as high as 97 mph.
