Sophomore second baseman Kasey Toven’s two-out run-scoring single completed a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning and lifted the Chancellors over El Camino Real, 3-2, today in a West Valley League game.
The left-handed-hitting Toven’s heroics helped keep the Chancellors (14-4, 5-0 in WVL play) alone atop the league standings. El Camino Real is 10-7, 3-2.
Junior left fielder Matt Moreno led off the seventh inning for the Chancellors with a double and scored on a two-out single by junior first baseman James Wharton, who advanced to second base on the throw home. Toven followed with the line-drive game winner.
Right-hander Trevor Takeyama, a junior, struck out six and gave up four hits in 4-2/3 innings and senior Mike Moustakas (1-0) struck out two in 2-1/3 innings of relief.
Toven produced Chatsworth’s first run with a groundout in the third inning that drove in sophomore catcher Carlos Escobar Jr., who led off the inning with a double and moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Wharton.
Senior third baseman Matt Dominguez had two hits for the Chancellors, who play at El Camino Real on Thursday at 3 p.m.
JV: Sophomore Andrew Klausmeier had two hits, including a double, and went the distance, and sophomore shortstop Ryan Cooperstone had a double and a triple in the same inning to lead the Chancellors (10-1-1, 4-0-1) at El Camino Real, 7-5.
