Senior shortstop Mike Moustakas drove in both of the Chancellors' runs with a pair of sacrifice fly balls to push the Chancellors over El Camino Real, 2-1, today in a West Valley League game at El Camino Real.
The left-handed hitting Moustakas went 1-3 on the day and helped keep the Chancellors (15-4, 6-0 in WVL play) alone atop the league standings. El Camino Real is 10-8, 3-3.
Junior James Wharton, who started the game on the mound and finished the game as the first-baseman, led off the eighth-inning for the Chancellors with a single and scored the go-ahead run on a one out sacrifice fly ball by Moustakas.
Right-hander Trent Jones (7-0), a senior, struck out seven and gave up two hits in 6-1/3 innings of relief.
Senior third baseman Matt Dominguez also singled for the Chancellors, who host San Fernando on Saturday at11 a.m.
JV: Junior left-hander Casey Fry struck out 12 batters to lead the Chancellors
(11-1-1, 5-0-1) to victory over the visiting Conquistadores. Junior right-hander Cameron Milstein provided two-innings of relief to earn the save. Catcher Sean O'Connell, a freshman, had three hits and drove in three runs, while freshman first-baseman Derek Neely added two hits of his own.
