Saturday, April 14, 2007

Senior third-baseman Matt Dominguez (top photo) went 3-3 with a grand slam to power the Chancellors over visiting San Fernando, 9-2 in a Chatsworth tournament game.
Dominguez's fifth inning grand slam was his fourth on the season and 32nd of his high school career.

The Chancellors (16-4) scored four of their nine runs in the fifth inning when senior designated hitter Ryan Merrill singled, and junior first baseman James Wharton and senior Nick Devian each walked, sending Dominguez to the plate with the bases loaded where he connected for a grand slam home run to left field.

Chatsworth put up two runs in the first after sophomore catcher Carlos Escobar Jr drove in two runs on a single, one of five five singles in the opening frame.
Seniors Bobby Coyle and Nick Devian each finished the afternoon with a single and a double.

Junior right-hander Trevor Takeyama (3-1) earned the victory by scattering five hits through five innings of work, and was relieved by junior left-hander Mike Renner who closed out the game with two scoreless innings.
