Senior center fielder Nick Devian sparked an 8-run outburst in the first inning with a lead-off single and a two-run home run that propelled the Chancellors
(17-4, 7-0 in WVL play) to a 13-2 victory over Birmingham today in a West Valley League game stopped after 5 innings because of the 10-run rule.
The right-handed-hitting Devian, who had three hits on the day, led off the first inning with a sharp single and was driven in by senior Matt Dominguez's fifth home run of the season. Sophomore second baseman Kasey Toven broke the inning wide open with a double that plated three runs.
Mike Moustakas, a senior shortstop, blasted a solo home run to lead off the top of the fith inning. The home run was his 15th on the season, and extended his school career home run record to 43. Sophomore left fielder Andy Weissberg also homered for the Chancellors, his first of the season.
Senior right-hander Trent Jones (8-0) allowed three hits and struck out four for the Chancellors.
The Chancellors play host to Birmingham on Thursday at 3 p.m.
JV: Junior shortstop Mark Felshaw hit a three-run inside-the-park home run in the fifth inning to invoke the 10-run rule in a WVL game against Birmingham, 10-0.
Sophomore center fielder Freddy Ramirez had three hits while Sophomore Andrew Klausmeier collected two hits, including a triple. Klausmeier also threw five innings of no-hit ball and collected the win for the host Chancellors (13-1-1, 4-0-1). Freshman catcher Sean O'Connell knocked in three runs.
