LOS ANGELES — For the second consecutive year, Chancellors senior shortstop Mike Moustakas has been selected Los Angeles City Section player of the year by a panel of area sportswriters.
Moustakas set state season and career home runs with 24 and 52, respectively, and batted .577 in helping the Chancellors win the West Valley League and City titles. It is the 11th time Chatsworth has had a player of the year and the first repeat winner for the Chancellors after pitcher Mike Kunes in 1998 and 1999.
Senior third baseman Matt Dominguez (.443, 13 HRs, 42 RBIs) was selected to the first team for the fourth consecutive year, and was joined on the first team by teammates Bobby Coyle (.419, 14, 46), a senior outfielder; Nick Devian (.410, 8, 37), a senior outfielder and Trent Jones (15-0, 1.80 ERA), a senior pitcher. Second-team selections were sophomore catcher Carlos Escobar Jr. (.286, 4, 15) and junior pitcher-first baseman James Wharton (10-1, 1.61).
The seven All-City selections were the most in a single season for Chatsworth.
