Senior shortstop Mike Moustakas, who set state home runs records with 24 this season and 52 over a four-year career, has been selected player of the year by the California Baseball Coaches Assn.

Moustakas, selected by the Kansas City Royals with the No. 2 overall pick of the major league amateur draft Thursday, was the state sophomore and junior of the year the last two seasons.

Junior first baseman-pitcher James Wharton has been selected to play for the South team in the CBCA's North-South All-Star series June 22-24 at Santa Clara University.
