Moustakas Selected Player of Year by Baseball America

Monday, July 2, 2007

Senior Mike Moustakas has been selected high school national player of the year by Baseball America, another in a line of recognitions for the record-setting Chancellors shortstop.

Senior third baseman Matt Dominguez was selected to the publication's All-American first team.

Moustakas this season established state records for single-season home runs with 24 and career home runs with 52. The second overall pick in the amateur draft in June, by the Kansas City Royals, the left-handed-hitting slugger already had been selected state player of the year by Cal-Hi Sports and the California Baseball Coaches Assn., and the Los Angeles City Section player of the year by a panel of sportswriters.

Dominguez, selected No. 12 overall in the draft by the Florida Marlins, had a career-best 13 home runs to finish with 41 over a four-year Chatsworth career.

Moustakas and Dominguez are the first two teammates from the same high school to be selected that high in the baseball draft.
