Monday, Aug. 13, 2007

Chancellors Coach Tom Meusborn has been selected 2007 coach of the year in Division 1, Region 8, by the American Baseball Coaches Assn./Diamond Sports.

Meusborn, the Region 8 coach of the year in 2000, guided the Chancellors (30-4) to the Los Angeles City Section title last season, the school’s sixth since he became coach in 1990 and seventh overall.

It was the fifth consecutive appearance for Chatsworth in a City final and the 11th under Meusborn, whose career record is 462-91-3, the top winning percentage in state history among coaches with 100 victories or more.

The ABCA also recognized three Chancellors as All-Americans — shortstop Mike Moustakas (first team), third baseman Matt Dominguez (second team) and outfielder Bobby Coyle (third team). Dominguez also was selected to the ABCA Gold Glove team.

Moustakas was drafted No. 2 overall by the Kansas City Royals in the June amateur draft and Dominguez was drafted No. 12 overall by the Florida Marlins. Coyle was drafted in the 19th round by the Cleveland Indians.

Numerous Chancellors who played for Meusborn moved on to four-year schools and several went on to professional baseball, including a current crop of minor league players made of infielder Ryan Barba (Milwaukee Brewers), outfielder Willie Cabrera (Atlanta Braves), pitcher Justin Cassel (Chicago White Sox), pitcher Jason Dominguez (Houston Astros), outfielder Bryan Petersen (Florida Marlins) and pitcher Josh Ravin (Cincinnati Reds).
