Senior right-hander Trevor Takeyama struck out 10 batters and gave up three hits over six innings and the Chancellors got the new season off to a good start with a 17-1 win over Fillmore in an Easton tournament game today at Chatsworth.
Takeyama did not walk a batter. He gave up the run on a run-scoring double in the third inning but was never really in trouble.
Senior second baseman Matt Moreno and senior first baseman James Wharton backed up Takeyama with home runs. Wharton hit a two-run drive in the second inning and Moreno hit a two-run shot in the third inning.
Junior third baseman Ryan Cooperstone came up with the big hit of the first inning, a three-run triple over the head of the center fielder. Cooperstone finished four for four and knocked in four runs.
Senior designated hitter Mark Felshaw was three for three, including a double; junior center fielder Andrew Klausmeier had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs; junior left fielder Andy Weissberg had a two-run double in the sixth inning, and junior shortstop Kasey Toven had two hits and two runs batted in.
The Chancellors continue play in the tournament at Calabasas on Saturday at 11 a.m.
JV: Junior left-hander Noah Hershewe struck out six over four innings and sophomore left-hander Brett Voets pitched scoreless relief to lead the Chancellors at Fillmore, 16-0.
Sophomore first baseman Derek Neely hit a grand slam, sophomore catcher Sean O'Connell had a single, double and home run, freshman left fielder Kevin Siegel had two hits and freshman designated hitter Steven Karkenny hit a triple for the Chancellors.
The Chancellors play host to Calabasas on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
