WOODLAND HILLS — Senior second baseman Matt Moreno’s grand slam highlighted a five-run fourth inning and the Chancellors defeated host El Camino Real, 9-4, today in a West Valley League game.
Senior right-hander Trevor Takeyama (5-1) went the distance for the Chancellors. He struck out eight, walked two and worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the second inning by inducing an inning-ending double play.
The Chancellors (10-4 overall, 2-1 in WVL play) play host to the Conquistadores (12-5, 2-1) on Friday at 3 p.m.
Chatsworth took a 3-0 lead in the first inning with Moreno contributing a run-scoring double.
In the fourth, junior catcher Carlos Escobar Jr. led off with a double and junior center fielder Andrew Klausmeier followed with a single. Junior shortstop Kasey Toven drove in Escobar with a sacrifice, junior right fielder Michael Renner singled and senior first baseman James Wharton walked to set the stage for Moreno.
JV: The junior varsity lost to El Camino Real, 6-1, at Chatsworth.
