LAKE BALBOA -- Junior left-hander Michael Renner gave up six hits and struck out six, and the Chancellors defeated host Birmingham, 2-1, today in the second game of a home-and-home West Valley League series.
Renner (3-2) pitched his second consecutive complete game. He defeated El Camino Real one week before.
Sophomore Derek Neely drove in the winning run with a pinch-hit single in the fourth inning. Senior second baseman Matt Moreno drove in the Chancellors' first run and finished with two hits, and junior shortstop Kasey Toven had two doubles.
The Chancellors (14-4 overall, 5-1 in WVL play) play host to San Fernando on Saturday at 11 a.m. in a Chatsworth tournament game.
