Senior right-hander James Wharton (3-1) struck out eight over four innings and helped his cause with a home run in the first inning, and the host Chancellors defeated Santa Barbara, 7-2, today in a Chatsworth tournament game.
Sophomore designated hitter Derek Neely had two hits for the Chancellors (20-5), including a run-scoring single in the second inning and junior first baseman Shawn Meusborn had a run-scoring single in the first inning.
Wharton, making his first start on the mound after a bout with mononucleosis, also had a two-run single in the second inning. He was replaced on the mound by senior right-hander Cameron Milstein, who struck out two in two innings, and senior right-hander Trevor Takeyama, who worked a perfect seventh inning.
