Senior catcher Carlos Escobar Jr. and junior outfielder Andy Weissberg each hit two-run home runs in the third inning and the Chancellors defeated Taft, 14-0, in five innings today in a West Valley League game at Chatsworth.
The Chancellors (21-5 overall, 10-1 in WVL play) can clinch their sixth consecutive league title with a victory Friday at third-place El Camino Real (6-5) or a loss by second-place Cleveland (7-4) at Taft (5-6).
Junior shortstop Kasey Toven had a triple for the Chancellors, and senior first baseman James Wharton and senior second baseman Matt Moreno each had a double.
Senior right-hander Trevor Takeyama struck out six over four innings and senior right-hander Cameron Milstein struck out one in one inning.
JV: The Chancellors beat Taft, 6-2, behind a seven-strikeout, five-inning effort from freshman right-hander Steven Karkenny.
Sophomore catcher Sean O'Connell had two doubles, sophomore shortstop Jeff Bezjian drove in a run and freshman first baseman Ryan Escobar scored twice for the Chancellors.
