The Chancellors open play in the City Section Championship Division playoffs with a home game against Poly today at 3 p.m.
ABOUT CHATSWORTH: The Chancellors (25-5), seeded No. 1 in the City Section playoffs for the sixth consecutive year, are on an eight-game winning streak and have won 16 of 17 games … Chatsworth is aiming to break a tie with Fremont and Kennedy for most City titles. Each has seven … Senior second baseman Matt Moreno, senior first baseman-pitcher James Wharton, junior catcher Carlos Escobar Jr., junior shortstop Kasey Toven and junior outfielder Andy Weissberg are looking to participate in their third City final at Dodger Stadium … The Chancellors have reached at least 25 victories for 11 consecutive seasons … From 2000 to the present, the Chancellors have won 25 Championship Division playoff games, more than any other team. Kennedy is second with 15 and El Camino Real is third with 14 ... The Chancellors won the WVL title for the sixth year in a row and 27th overall.
ABOUT POLY: The No. 16-seeded Parrots are 18-12 overall and finished tied for second in the Sunset Six League with an 11-4 record, but are the No. 3 representative from the league.
SERIES VERSUS POLY: Since 1980, the Chancellors are 10-7 against the Parrots, including a 16-0 victory April 5 in a Chatsworth tournament game.
COACH TOM MEUSBORN: In his 19th season with the Chancellors, his record of 487-96-3 (.835 winning percentage) is the best ever in the state for a coach with 100 victories or more … Meusborn has won six City titles and is tied for first place on the all-time list with Les Haserot, who won six with Fremont between 1939 and 1948 … Meusborn’s record in the playoffs is 50-12 … The Chancellors have never lost a first-round playoff game under Meusborn.

JUNIOR VARSITY: The Chancellors (21-6) travel today to play top-seeded Roosevelt in a first-round game of the playoffs. Chatsworth defeated No. 16-seeded Westchester, 8-2, Tuesday in a play-in game needed to correct the fact the Chancellors were left out of the tournament in the seeding meeting despite finishing in second place in the WVL. Junior left-hander Jerry Lobert struck out 11 and gave up one hit in five innings against Westchester, and Sean O’Connell, Angel Calderon and Brady Conlan each had two hits.
