Saturday, March 14, 2009

Senior third baseman Ryan Cooperstone hit a single to left field to drive in sophomore first baseman Steven Karkenny from second base in the bottom of the eighth inning and give the Chancellors a 3-2 victory over Thousand Oaks in an Easton tournament game today.

Senior right-hander Andy Weissberg (1-0) picked up the victory in relief.

Thousand Oaks took a 2-0 lead on a two-run home run in the fifth inning but the Chancellors (4-1) cut the deficit to 2-1 on a sacrifice fly by senior outfielder Andrew Klausmeier that drove in Cooperstone from third base.

Chatsworth tied the score, 2-2, on a two-out double steal in the seventh inning in which senior catcher Carlos Esbobar Jr., who had singled, scored.

Karkenny led off the eighth with a single to left field and senior shortstop Kasey Toven followed with a single to right field. Cooperstone then hit a line drive to left field to knock in Karkenny on a close play at the plate.

JV: Sophomore right fielder Kevin Siegel hit a grand slam, freshman catcher Ricky Obando hit a home run and the Chancellors (3-2) defeated host Thousand Oaks, 19-6.

Sophomore second baseman Brady Conlan had three hits, including two doubles. Siegel finished with three hits and six runs batted in.
