LOS ANGELES -- Senior catcher Carlos Escobar Jr. hit a two-run home run and the Chancellors defeated Kennedy, 4-1, tonight in a nonleague game at USC's Dedeaux Field.
The Chancellors improved to 6-1 and Coach Tom Meusborn pulled to within three victories of 500.
Senior right-hander Ryan Cooperstone (2-1) gave up five hits over 5-1/3 innings and struck out six, and senior right-hander Andrew Klausmeier finished up with 1-2/3 innings, giving up no hits and striking out two for his first save.
Chatsworth took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-base error, allowing senior shortstop Kasey Toven to score from third base and Cooperstone to score from second base.
Escobar put the Chancellors ahead, 4-0, in the third inning with a blast over the 395-foot sign in center field after senior designated hitter Andy Weissberg had walked.
JV: The host Chancellors defeated Kennedy, 7-0, behind the one-hit pitching of sophomore right-hander Angel Rodriguez.
Freshman catcher Ricky Obando hit a home run, junior outfielder Adam Baslow had two hits and drove in three runs, sophomore outfielder Kevin Siegel had two hits, including a double, and freshman outfielder David Negrete had a triple.
