LAS VEGAS -- The Chancellors opened play in the Las Vegas Durango tournament Monday with a 10-0 victory over Las Vegas Coronado in six innings and a 2-1 win over the host school.
Senior right-hander Andrew Klausmeier (right) struck out 16 batters and gave up only four hits to beat Las Vegas Durango in the night game.
With the score tied, 1-1, senior shortstop Kasey Toven walked in the top of the seventh inning and stole second base before scoring on a single by senior third baseman Ryan Cooperstone.
Cooperstone had two hits, Klausmeier had one and sophomore outfielder Aaron Brown had a double in the third inning, moved to third base after consecutive walks and scored on a passed ball.
Sophomore right-hander Christian Lopez struck out six against Coronado in the afternoon game.
Senior catcher Carlos Escobar Jr. was three for three with a double, junior designated hitter Derek Neely was three for four with three runs batted in and senior second baseman Shaw Meusborn had a run-scoring double.
The Chancellors scored five runs in the first inning and four runs in the sixth against Coronado.
Chatsworth (14-1) takes on Santana today at 5 p.m. at Las Vegas Durango High.
