Senior center fielder Andrew Klausmeier hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to spark the host Chancellors to an 8-3 victory over Cleveland today in a West Valley League game.
The Chancellors (18-2 overall, 5-1 in league play) pulled even with the Cavaliers (14-4, 5-1) atop the league standings. The teams split a home-and-home series this week.
Senior right-hander Ryan Cooperstone gave up four hits, struck out four and walked none in five innings to pick up the victory. Klausmeier (top right) struck out four in two innings.
The Chancellors took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on Klausmeier's two-run double to left field. Senior catcher Carlos Escobar Jr. led off the inning with a double, junior designated hitter Derek Neely singled and Cooperstone walked to load the bases.
Cleveland cut the deficit to 2-1 in the fourth inning but Klausmeier's drive over the right-center field fence increased Chatsworth's lead to 5-1 in the bottom half of the inning.
The Chancellors added a run in the fifth inning on a single by Cooperstone and two in the sixth on single by senior first baseman Michael Renner and a sacrifice fly by Neely.
Escobar finished three for three with a walk.
JV: The Chancellors beat host Cleveland, 7-1, to improve to 5-0 in league play.
Right-hander Angel Rodriguez (bottom right) went the distance for the Chancellors.
Kevin Siegel had two hits and drove in four runs, Kiefer Kofman had a triple and drove in a run and Brady Conlan had two hits.
