Wednesday, May 13, 2009

Senior right fielder Andy Weissberg hit a three-run home run, senior center fielder Andrew Klausmeier hit a two-run shot and senior left-hander Michael Renner (right) went the distance to lift the Chancellors over Granada Hills, 9-1, Tuesday in a West Valley League game at Chatsworth.

The Chancellors (26-3 overall, 12-2 in league play) remained in a first-place tie with Cleveland, which beat El Camino Real, 6-5. Chatsworth and Cleveland each has a league game left, on Thursday, and if they finish tied the Chancellors will be the No. 1 team from the league for playoff seeding purposes because it beat the Cavaliers in two of three head-to-head games.

Renner (8-2) struck out nine, gave up four hits and walked two.

Weissberg finished with three hits and Klausmeier finished with two. Senior catcher Carlos Escobar Jr. had two hits and drove in a run and junior designated hitter Derek Neely had two hits, including a double.

JV: The Chancellors won at Granada Hills, 17-1.

Justin Davis hit two triples and Kevin Siegel had two hits, including a two-run home run.
