The Chancellors opened defense of their City Section title with a 10-3 victory over San Fernando today in a first-round game at Chatsworth.
Chatsworth (27-4), seeded No. 2, will play host to No. 10-seeded Bell on Friday in a quarterfinal game. Bell advanced with a 14-4, six-inning win over No. 7-seeded Verdugo Hills.
Senior right-hander Andrew Klausmeier struck out seven over five innings and senior right-hander Ryan Cooperstone struck out two in two innings.
They got plenty of help from the offense, which got 11 hits, including three from junior designated hitter Derek Neely (right) and two each from senior first baseman Michael Renner, senior second baseman Shawn Meusborn and Cooperstone, who had a double and a triple and drove in three runs.
Renner and senior catcher Carlos Escobar Jr. each had two runs batted in.
