The No. 2-seeded Chancellors parlayed two four-run innings to defeat No. 3 El Camino Real, 8-5, today in a City Section playoff semifinal game at Chatsworth and reach the championship game for an unprecedented seventh consecutive year.
Two-time defending champion Chatsworth (29-4) will play top-seeded Cleveland (26-7) for the title Saturday at 2 p.m. at Dodger Stadium (right). It will be a rematch of the 2007 title game, won by Chatsworth, 2-1. The Chancellors are pursuing their ninth championship overall and seventh since 1999.
Chatsworth defeated Cleveland in two of three West Valley League meetings this season but the Cavaliers won the league title, one game ahead of the Chancellors.
In extending their playoff home winning streak to 22 games, the Chancellors relied on the 10-strikeout performance of senior right-hander Andrew Klausmeier (top right) and some timely hitting, even from the pitcher — who plays center field when not on the mound — who had a hit and drove in two runs to help run his record to 6-0.
Senior outfielder Andy Weissberg had two two-run hits, senior shortstop Kasey Toven (bottom right) had two hits and drove in a run, junior left fielder Sean O'Connell had two hits and junior designated hitter Derek Neely had a hit and drove in a run.
