The Chatsworth JV took a commanding lead after two innings and never looked back on the way to defeating El Camino Real, 11-3, today at home to earn its second consecutive City Section championship.
Top-seeded Chatsworth (23-6) beat the No. 3 Conquistadores (21-7-1) for the fourth time this season. The first three victories came in West Valley League play.
It was the third and last time the JV championship game was contested. The game has been discontinued for financial reasons. Chatsworth participated in all three games, losing to Cleveland, 5-1, in 2007 and beating Banning, 3-1, in 2008.
Against El Camino Real, sophomore right-hander Angel Rodriguez (top) scattered nine hits and struck out three. He worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the first inning with no more damage than a 1-0 deficit.
The Chancellors answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, three in the second inning and cruised from there.
Sophomore shortstop Chris Carlin (second from top) was three for three and drove in two runs, freshman third baseman Ernesto Prado (third from top) was two for three and freshman center fielder Hayden Tsutsui (bottom) drove in Chatsworth's first run with a single in the first inning.
