Since 1998, Chatsworth Charter High School (CCHS) has been a demonstration site with an SAS exemplary designation for its Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program. The Schools for Advanced Studies (SAS) designation recognizes schools for their innovative, equitable, and effective GATE practices, providing high-quality differentiated instruction focused on depth, complexity, acceleration, and novelty. SAS sites, like Chatsworth Charter High School, offer rigorous academic opportunities to meet the unique needs of gifted learners, identified in categories such as Intellectual Ability, High Achievement Ability, Specific Academic Ability, Creative Ability, and Leadership Ability, or through verified critical thinking and achievement. While SAS schools must meet State and District GATE/SAS requirements, they have flexibility in clustering models, thematic focus, instructional strategies, and enrichment opportunities. CCHS was selected as a demonstration site for its research-based, differentiated curriculum and instruction for gifted learners. The SAS program encourages high levels of abstract thinking, motivation, achievement, peer interaction, and an accelerated learning pace. Admission is based on eligibility criteria, space availability, and any specific conditions unique to the school.
