Los Angeles City Section Division 4-A Champions
The Chancellors rallied under first-year Coach Tom Meusborn for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat favored El Camino Real, 3-2, at Dodger Stadium.
Chatsworth had been shut out by Pat Treend (12-1) through five innings before getting to the right-hander in the sixth. After three consecutive walks with one out, Adam Pearlman singled to center field to drive in one run. Tommy Lee was waived in from second base but was thrown out at the plate for the second out. The Chancellors had to settle for one run and trailed, 2-1. In the seventh, Treend walked Rodney Bloom to open the inning. Nestor Martinez bunted but Treend threw late to second base and both runners were safe. Mike Mancuso bunted but second baseman Herman Merchan dropped Treend's throw at first base. Bloom scored on the play to tie the score, 2-2. and Martinez moved to third Mancuso moved to second on pitcher’s indifference when Treend held the ball as Mancuso strolled to second. After catching Mitch Root’s liner, Treend intentionally walked Reed McMackin, who was selected the games most valuable player, to load the bases.
