CIF City Titles - 2008
Saturday, May 31, 2008 Los Angeles City Section Champions Making their sixth consecutive appearance in a Los Angeles City Section title game, the Chancellors relied on the five-hit pitching of Trevor Takeyama and a nine-hit attack to defeat Narbonne, 7-2, at Dodger Stadium.
The top-seeded Chancellors (29-5) earned a City Section-record eighth championship, and the seventh under Coach Tom Meusborn, a record for a coach. The Chancellors started fast, scoring in the top of the first inning on a single by junior third baseman Ryan Cooperstone that drove in senior first baseman James Wharton from second base. Wharton had walked with two outs. Narbonne (27-7) tied the score, 1-1, in the bottom half of the inning and could have had more if not for two outstanding plays by junior shortstop Kasey Toven. The Chancellors added two runs in the second inning and three in the fourth, and Takeyama (14-1), a senior right-hander, cruised the rest of the way. He struck out seven to earn his third victory of the playoffs. Senior second baseman Matt Moreno and junior left fielder Andrew Klausmeier each had two hits. Klausmeier and sophomore designated hitter Derek Neely each hit a double. Cooperstone drove in two runs and had one of nine stolen bases by the Chancellors, including two by Moreno. 2008 City Final Box Score
